Chetopa Kansas is a small community of approximately 1,200 people located on the Neosho River in the far southeast corner of Kansas. Chetopa is approximately three miles from the Oklahoma border and 30 miles from Missouri. It is a charming small-town known locally as the Pecan and Catfish Capital of Kansas! The community sponsors numerous activities for the young and old alike, such as: 4-H, VFW, Women’s VFW Auxiliary, Chamber of Commerce, Community Task Force, PTO, Senior Citizens Center, Volunteer Fire Department, Volunteer 1st Responder Unit, and Little League Basketball, Baseball/Softball and Football. The community comes together twice a year to host festivals and celebrations - once to celebrate 4th of July, and in the fall, for our Pecan Fest.

On the outskirts of the city pecan trees thrive and agricultural activities remain the backbone of the community. The river is a source of entertainment each year as fishermen line the banks in the Spring for the spawning of the illustrious paddlefish, known locally as the spoonbill, and catch an abundance of catfish during the regular fishing season.

Chetopa Schools is a PK-12 building that offers excellent programs of study for all students. It is our people that make our programs fantastic, our dedicated staff who work tirelessly to ensure opportunities for all students. Chetopa Schools provides effective and engaging classes and curriculum, small class sizes, high-speed Internet and low student to device technology ratio. Our students are afforded extracurricular activities and leadership opportunities and are equipped to be global thinkers, while still experiencing a small- community, often idyllic, childhood.

The community and the school thrive on a symbiotic relationship that is supportive and encouraging. The City of Chetopa and its residents know the school is vital to the value of the city and Chetopa Schools recognizes the significance of teaching kids to be engaged citizens in their hometown. Together, Chetopa takes pride in offering programs of study and extracurricular activities that rival larger towns and schools in the area. Chetopa Hornet Pride runs deep through the roots of this community much as the trees that grow close to the river. The pride and integrity that comes with being a Hornet leaves a life-long mark on our learners. If you’re in search of a school and community that provides an effective education wrapped in encouragement and supported by a hometown experience look no further than Chetopa, Kansas!
