Chetopa FFA: Here are the results from the 2008 Kansas State Fair:
Sheep-
Erica Kabrey: 6th place lamb in the AOB class; 10th place in the heavyweight cross class
Goats-
Breeding Does-
Tait Johnson: age 6-9 months class: 4th Place
Lindsey Pease: age 20-24 months class: 1st Place
Market Goats-
Kyle Darnell: Class One - 2nd place; Class Nine - 1st place
Lindsey Pease: Class One - 3rd place; Class Two - 2nd place
Andrew Porter: Class Three - 1st place; Class Seven - 2nd place
Tait Johnson: Class Four - 2nd place
Mason Carter: Class Eight - 1st; Over-All Reserve Grand Champion Meat Goat
Mason Carter had the Reserve Grand Champion Meat Goat Over-All. Another cool thing about this result is that Mason's goat was raised and sold by Lindsey Pease this last spring. There are breeders who try for a lifetime to raise a goat to win a Grand or Reserve at the State Fair and never accomplish it. So, for a kid in high school to accomplish such a task, it's incredible!
This should help Lindsey market her goats on a bigger level. That's what Vocational Agriculture is all about: giving students a vocation that can put money in the bank and food on the table!
I am starting to show my age, after being gone for five LONG days and getting to bed at 2:00 am last night, I feel tired. But, boy, these kids did a great job in representing themselves and the school, and I hope you are as proud of them as I am! Thanks!
