By Carter, Roberta
Chetopa Elementary School has been awarded the Challenge Award of Recognition for accomplishment in closing the achievement gap in both Reading and Math at the fourth grade level based on the Kansas Assessment results from spring of 2011. The Confidence in Kansas Public Education Task Force recognizes schools for outstanding achievement. Toni Overman, fourth grade teacher at Chetopa Elementary, works diligently to help her students succeed educationally.
Chetopa Elementary School has several classrooms that received the Standard of Excellence Award from the Kansas Department of Education. In order to receive this award a classroom must have at least 25% of their students score Exemplary (the highest performance level) and no more than 5% of their students score in Academic Warning (the lowest performance level). Those classrooms include: Reading, 4th grade; Reading, 5th grade; Math, 4th grade; Math, 5th grade; Math, 6th grade; and Math, Chetopa Elementary (Building-wide).
These awards are a result of the hard work of the entire elementary teaching staff and their dedication to the students of Chetopa Elementary.
