New Staff for 2010-2011

DISTRICT:  USD 505 Chetopa - St. Paul adds nine new staff members for 2010-2011. 

Cheri Lyne Avery will be teaching K-12 music in St. Paul and will also be the all-school play director.  She is a December 2008 graduate of PSU, graduating summa cum laude. While at PSU, she was involved in the PSU marching band, university choir, women’s choir, wind ensemble, chamber winds, jazz ensemble, and saxophone quartet.  She is also a member of Phip Kappa Phi and Phi Kappa Lambda.  She is a native of Altamont, Kansas, and a graduate of LCHS.  She currently resides in Girard.

Barbara Edings returns to Chetopa as an At-Risk instructor.  She had been a long-term substitute in Chetopa last year.  She is a 2009 graduate of Pitt-State, graduating with honors.  She is a graduate of Elgin High School and currently lives in rural Oswego. She is married to James and they have three sons: Joshua, Caleb, and Josiah.  Mrs. Edings says that she is “so excited and anticipating great things while working here in Chetopa.”

Mike Ferraro returns to Chetopa, the school where he began his teaching career. Mike is a graduate of PSU where he earned his BS degree in biology, his MS in education, and his EDS in administration. His hometown is Columbus where he lives with his family, wife Deanna and children Jason and Jenna.  Mr. Ferraro is the high school science teacher.  He will also be the assistant HS volleyball coach, assistant baseball coach, and the freshmen class sponsor.  Mr. Ferraro’s favorite quote: “You only get out of something what you put in to it.”

Christopher Gilreath is beginning his teaching career at Chetopa Elementary as the kindergarten teacher.  His wife, Sarah, is also a kindergarten teacher in Oswego.  They live in Altamont and have one child, Lily.  He is a 2010 graduate of PSU.  He will also be the head baseball coach.  Mr. Gilreath’s motto: “Do or do not.  There is no try.”

Sara Meiwes is a high school graduate of Marmaton Valley and a 2010 graduate of Pitt-State.  She will be teaching MS math at St. Paul.  Her parents are Gene and Karen Meiwes and she calls Iola home.

Sean Price takes the reins at Chetopa High School as the new football coach and social sciences teacher.  He earned his undergraduate degree at PSU and his masters degree at William Woods University. His hometown is Caney where he graduated from high school. He and his wife, Bridgett, live in Joplin.  He has three children, Dylan, Madi, and Glen.  Coach Price’s other coaching duties include head JH football, head HS track, and assistant baseball. His parents are Stan and Kathy Price.

Charity Qualls is the new Chetopa math teacher. She is a 1992 graduate of MSSU. She is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma national honor society.  She also participated in the Oxford University Summer Study Program.  Her hometown is Baxter Springs where she lives with husband Ryan and their children Madison, Lauren, Nathan, and Kennedy.

New paraeducators to the St. Paul staff are Kathie Grosdidier and Jennifer Hutcherson. Hutcherson also coaches HS volleyball, softball, MS basketball, and assists with MS volleyball.
