Jim Nave is a Winner!
Receives Ideas Unlimited Award
February 08, 2010
CHETOPA: Jim Nave, agriculture education teacher at Chetopa High School, has been selected as the 2010 Kansas winner of the Ideas Unlimited award, given by the National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE).
The Ideas Unlimited Award is designed to give NAAE members an opportunity to exchange teaching ideas. The ideas are judged on their originality, practicality, adaptability to instruction, and instructional value.
Nave will represent the State of Kansas Agriculture Teachers Association and will compete against Ideas Unlimited award winners from surrounding states for the opportunity to be named the 2010 NAAE Ideas Unlimited award winner for Region II. The Region II conference will be held June 13-16 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Regional winners will receive a cash award and attend the 2010 NAAE conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, and compete for National honors. The NAAE Ideas Unlimited Award program is sponsored by Delmar Cengage Learning.
NAAE is the professional association for agricultural educators. The mission of NAAE is “professionals providing agricultural education for the global community through visionary leadership, advocacy and service.” The NAAE office is located on the University of Kentucky campus in Lexington.
Jim Nave is currently in his sixteenth year as the Agriculture instructor at Chetopa High School. He strives to encourage students to be involved in their school and community. Nave received the award for his design and implementation of the FFA Buck Program. The FFA Buck Program is used as a hands-on approach to get more students involved in FFA, Leadership Activities, and Community Service.
“Ag teachers are very busy people,” Nave said. “We use lots of hands-on activities in our lessons in and outside the classroom. Our job is to provide students with the necessary tools to become successful leaders in their future careers. One of the best ways to do this is to provide students with supervised agriculture experiences, FFA opportunities, community service activities, and high level classroom instruction.” According to Nave, “This is what USD 505 and Chetopa High School do best.”
