Outstanding Music Educator
December 07, 2009
CHETOPA: Chetopa Schools music instructor, Alan Paxson, has received the Southeast KMEA Outstanding Music Educator Award for 2009. Paxson has been the music instructor at Chetopa for 33 years. His duties include all vocal and instrumental instruction for all grades K-12. Paxson is dedicated to his school, community, and students. He works tirelessly at his work and involves himself not only in school activities but also with community activities. He is the organizer and director of the Chetopa Community Cantata which performs every year during the Christmas season (this year's Cantata is Sunday, December 13, 3:00 PM, at the Christian Church). Many of his students go on to participate in post-secondary music programs or to major in music performance or music education. Mr. Paxson and his wife Cheryl make their home in Chetopa. Thank you, Mr. Paxson, for being a positive influence on our students and for providing them with a solid education and appreciation of music and fine arts.
"My songs will pass and be forgotten.
What counts, however, is that I sang them." - Andrew Greeley
