The week before Spring Break the Entrepreneurship team consisting of Ally Gard, Breah Giefer, and Logan Giefer took an online objective test based on “Entrepreneurship”. Little did they know that that test would place them in the top five in the state which qualified them for finals at the State Leadership Conference. Having never done this before the team was a little nervous about what to expect, but they knew that they only had to beat out three teams in order to qualify for Nationals in Atlanta, Georgia. So, when they arrived at the State Leadership Conference, they signed up for a time to present. When they showed up for their presentation, they were given an “Entrepreneurship scenario” with questions to answer. They were isolated and given twenty minutes to prepare. Then, they were given seven minutes to present their case and their solutions to the questions to the three judges in the room. Not being sure how well they did, they nervously awaited the Awards Ceremony that afternoon to see how they did. In the objective tests the top three individuals qualify for nationals, but in the team events only the top two qualify. When the top five Entrepreneurship team finalists were called on stage, nobody showed more nerves than Logan. When they called off the 5th and 4th place teams, Elizabeth turned to Mrs. Meigs standing in the back of the room and exclaimed “Mrs. Meigs, they made the top three!”. Mrs. Meigs replied “Yeah, but they have to make the top two.” In that amount of time they named the 3rd place team and all we know is that it wasn’t us. Our group started cheering real loud, and to tell you the truth we don’t know who won, but all we knew is that we qualified for Nationals! They came to the back of the room and we were taking pictures, etc. while the awards ceremony continued on. I think we were oblivious to anything else that was going on for the next two hours!
Now, it’s time to get serious! The team has to prepare! On June 25th, Ally, Breah, Logan, Mrs. Meigs, and a few family members will be flying to Atlanta, Georgia. The Board has graciously agreed to pay for the team’s hotel rooms and flights. On Thursday, June 26th, the team will take another online test competing against approximately 100 other teams from all over the nation. They have to place in the top ten on the test in order to break finals. Should they break finals, they will present on Saturday, June 28th. On Thursday and Friday, there are workshops the team members can participate in, as well as attending the opening session. Sightseeing Atlanta is planned as well. The Awards Ceremony will be on Sunday evening, and the team will return home on Monday the 30th.
If you see these students please tell them congratulations for a job well done and wish them luck for the upcoming competition. These students have done an outstanding job!
