St. Paul High School: Organizations: FBLA

St. Paul FBLA Fall News

by Alex Treiber

April 11, 2008

St. Paul Future Business Leaders of America started the year with active recruiting of members. When all was said and done our 8 returning members from last year recruited 13 more members for a total of 21.

On October 10th, FBLA officers and senior members took part in a Business Career Day at Emporia State University. Students went to three sessions representing different business areas such as Accounting/Finance, Marketing/Management/Business Administration/International Business, and Business Education/Management Information Systems/Computer Information Systems. Students heard speakers talk about job descriptions, salaries, employers, and general tips and strategies for getting a job in that particular area. Students were given a “Menu for Success” and the “Ten Greatest Mistakes Made in Job Interviews”. Overall, the students felt that it was a worthwhile trip, the information was good, and that it helped get them thinking about what to do after high school.

FBLA works closely with the March of Dimes helping to raise money for prematurity awareness. So during the month of November, St. Paul FBLA recognized Prematurity Awareness Month by having a fundraiser. We had a competition between grades 9-12 to have the coin can that had the most weight. The freshman class won that competition. During Prematurity Week, we read a statement over the intercom giving facts about prematurity and what you can do to help fight this battle including educating others and donating money for research.

On November 15th, we celebrated American Enterprise Day by delivering cookies and a card of Thanks for supporting the community and St. Paul Schools to area businesses. Businesses are such an integral part of our community and the American way of life, and we certainly love and appreciate all of our area businesses.
